In 1985 there was a writing contest open to children to write an essay on “How you show that you care”. Five first place winners, were flown to Washington D.C to attend “Women’s Day”. One hundred runners up received this special edition Prize Bear. The tummy symbols were a special patch that were copied on to fabric and then hand stitched to the bears tummies. There were a few different bear bodies used including wish, cheer and love-a-lot. As of yet only five Prize bears have surfaced. Paperwork and certificates of achievement were also sent along with the bears to the runners up. I have never seen this paper work before with any other Prize Bear. I also have pictured a newspaper article that was written about the young girl who originally won my Prize bear. The photo in the article and supporting paperwork makes this prize bear the only documented, proven authentic bear.
